    Event description

You're invited to have a relax at Store Beach, Q Station and learn about the expertise and passion of our first nations people in caring for country.

Aboriginal spiritual and cultural values exist in the land and waters of New South Wales.

The Gamay Rangers are an Indigenous Ranger group and they care for Country in Gamay (Botany Bay) Sydney.

They help ensure cultural practices and knowledge is included in the management of national parks on their Country.

They are passionate about sharing their knowledge and protecting the sea country. Right throughout NSW there are partnerships with Aboriginal peoples and recognition of their traditional custodianship of Country.

It is vital that we encourage the continuing practice of traditional and contemporary Aboriginal culture in the ongoing management of parks and the marine environment.

As NSW Minister for Environment, I was proud to appoint the Gamay Rangers as honorary National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) rangers. The first ever Aboriginal organisation to hold this role.

The Gamay crew work alongside the NSW National Parks team to share traditional knowledge and techniques and be involved in the operations of the national parks on their Country.

They share cultural knowledge and undertake natural and cultural resource management activities on cultural areas within Botany Bay and on conservation land. Activities of the Gamay Rangers include patrolling the waters, marine mammal awareness and protection especially the whale, cultural heritage protection and conservation, threatened species management, cultural and environmental awareness for recreational vessel operators and visitor experience.

Come and meet the Gamay Rangers and learn more about their work, have a chat and ask some questions.

This is a free event for the people of the electorate of Manly (which includes suburbs from Manly to Dee Why).

The venue is kindly donated by the awesome Q Station.
