ABOUT OUR GUEST:
CLAYTON JACOBSON
Like many directors before him, Clayton cut his teeth directing music videos for some of Australia’s premier musical acts including INXS, John Farnham, Kate Ceberano, and Jimmy Barnes to name just a few. Clayton then shifted gear, directing award winning local and international television commercials as well as two documentaries: The Holy Roadside for Mushroom records and Inside This Room, an ABC-TV special featuring the work of performers/composers David Hirschfelder and David Hobson.
Clayton Jacobson graduated from Australia’s prestigious Swinburne Film & TV school in the mid ’80s. Collaborating with established directors, Clayton entered the industry as an editor on feature films, TV and documentaries, working with such luminaries as Jane Campion (The Piano), Richard Lowenstein (Dogs in Space), Paul Goldman (Australian Rules), Andrew Dominik (Chopper) and John Hillcoat (The Proposition).
Following on from directing many award winning short films, Clayton created Kenny – Self Proclaimed Scatologist the award winning short film at the 2004 St Kilda Film Festival which led to the creation of Kenny, the Australian box office and critically acclaimed hit of 2006. Clayton produced and directed Kenny’s World for Channel 10 and has several other feature film projects in development in Australia and America.
In 2011 Clayton directed an episode of the ABC Television series Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and received the peer judged Australian Director’s Guild Award for Best Direction in an Online Program for Mordy Koots. His acting credits include Mr Inbetween, Animal Kingdom, Top of the Lake, Kenny, Blacktown, House Husbands, Lowdown and Round The Twist, among others.
Clayton’s most recent television project, shot in 2015 was the TV pilot, Moonman starring Lawrence Mooney for the ABC’s Comedy Showroom. His latest feature Brothers’ Nest in which he also stars (alongside his brother Shane) premiered at South by Southwest Conference and Festivals, 2018.
Clayton is currently the Founder/CEO of Dreamscreen Australia – a state of the art led virtual production studio based in Melbourne, Australia, where he has worked on the Visual Effects for numerous productions including La Brea, High Country, The Clearing, Scrublands, The Fires, Whitefever and Love Me, among others.
