Meeting Ground

A Women's Movement and Embodiment Process

Yellow Church, Mullumbimby
Wednesday mornings

Before words,
there is breath.

Before understanding,
there is sensation.

Before knowing where we are going,
there is the simple act of arriving.

This group is an invitation to arrive.
To listen through movement.
To notice what becomes possible when we give attention to the body's ways of knowing.

How do we meet ourselves beyond words?

This five-session process begins with an introductory gathering. Women who choose to continue will then meet as a closed group for four further sessions, allowing trust, familiarity and depth to develop over time.

Drawing from Dance Movement Therapy, somatic practice, creative exploration and group process, these sessions offer a space to slow down, arrive in the body, and bring attention to our lived experience through movement, reflection and presence.

Together we will explore what becomes available when we listen not only through thought, but also through sensation, gesture, rhythm, breath and imagination.

The body often carries information that has not yet found words. Through movement, stillness and witnessing, we will create opportunities to notice where we are, what is asking for attention, and what supports a greater sense of connection to ourselves and others.

The sessions will include guided movement experiences, individual exploration, partner and small-group work, creative reflection and shared discussion. Like many of the relationships in our lives, we will move between moments of solitude and moments of connection.

Themes may emerge around belonging, change, loss, hope, mothering, creativity, identity, ageing, resilience, uncertainty and the many transitions that shape our lives. Rather than seeking particular outcomes, we will practice meeting our experience with curiosity, compassion and embodied awareness.

This is not a dance class, and no movement experience is required. The group welcomes women with a wide range of movement experience, including those who may feel new to movement-based exploration. The invitation is simply to come as you are and engage at a pace that feels right for you.

What to Expect

Sessions will include guided movement experiences, creative exploration and shared reflection.

We will spend time moving individually, in pairs and as a group. Some explorations will invite slow listening and sensing, while others may be more playful, dynamic and expressive.

The work may include:

• Guided floor-based movement and body awareness practices

• Solo, partner and group explorations

• Improvisation and creative movement inquiry

• Verbal reflection and shared discussion

• Opportunities for witnessing and being witnessed

• Optional hands-on partner exercises

• Time for rest and integration

Participation is always invitational. You are welcome to engage at a pace that feels right for you.
