Meeting the Vicissitudes of Life with Grace
Event description
Update 10/1: Due to a family emergency, Noliwe will be unable to guide us in this program. Fortunately, we have an amazing substitute teacher taking her place:
Kate Johnson is a meditation teacher, facilitator, writer and mother who works at the intersections of spirituality, embodiment, and the practice of wise relationship. Kate is on the Stewarding Teachers Council at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, serves as the Executive Director of Buddhist Peace Fellowship, and is the author of the book Radical Friendship: Seven Ways to Love Yourself and Find Your People in an Unjust World. She has also been a high school yoga teacher, a co-founder of the Meditation Working Group at Occupy Wall Street, and a faculty member of MIT’s Presencing Institute. Kate has studied Theravada Buddhism since her early 20’s in the Western Insight tradition, with roots in the Thai Forest and Burmese Sayadaw traditions, and was empowered as a retreat teacher in 2020 through Spirit Rock Meditation Center’s four-year training, under the leadership of Gina Sharpe, Larry Yang and Lila Kate Wheeler. Kate is also an utterly unprofessional dancer who holds a BFA in Dance from the Alvin Ailey School/ Fordham University, a MA in Performance Studies from NYU.
Join Noliwe Alexander for a day of practice and discussion, hosted by Delaware Valley Insight. This session will be Saturday, October 4th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This session is open to all and not to be confused with Noliwe's Friday event which is targeted specifically for the BIPOC community.
Both sessions are hybrid events, i.e. you can elect to attend either in-person, at the Summit Presbyterian Church, 6757 Greene St, Philadelphia, PA 19119, or online via Zoom. Noliwe will be in person at the Summit Presbyterian Church.
This program is appropriate for both new and experienced meditators. Everyone is welcome.
Dana (Generosity) will be well received and shared with Noliwe to support her in offering this program.
