The Melbourne Energy Institute invites you to join us at our end-of-year event, MEI Symposium 24.

The annual MEI Symposium showcases the multi-disciplinary energy research taking place throughout the University of Melbourne. Importantly, it provides a space for collaboration, as well as an opportunity to celebrate the past year's accomplishments.

Each year, the MEI Symposium features prominent international and local keynote speakers, talented graduate students, and academic staff presenting their research within MEI’s four program areas: Energy Systems, Energy Materials, Power Generation and Transport, Heavy Industry and Resources.

A total of $8,000 in prizes is available to be won by students and post-docs as part of this year’s event, with four awards available each for Best Presentation and Best Poster.

This year, we are pleased to host Anna Skarbek, CEO of Climateworks Centre, as our opening keynote speaker on "Matching ambition by design: aligning the energy system with renewable superpower expectations".

Australia's ‘renewable superpower’ ambition is clear and the energy system has a critical role to play. The nation has the potential to take this from ambition to reality. But what does that look like in practice? What are the major technological, governance, policy and financing changes underway to drive this and what more would help the electricity and energy system planning match the ambition for Australia’s future economic prosperity in a net zero world?

For 15 years, Climateworks Centre has led scenario modelling that demonstrates Australia's sector pathways for achieving climate goals with other benefits - informing policy and practice for implementation.

Climateworks CEO Anna Skarbek will outline the energy sector pathway's role in the net zero transformation, the latest policy and financing developments, and how energy system planning can align.

MEI Symposium 24 is a full-day event, with two options for simultaneous sessions in the morning and afternoon.
