Event description

The Melbourne Energy Institute invites you to it's first seminar for 2024, presented by Mr Chris Mock, Manager – Engineering Strategy at AEMO.

Australia’s large-scale power systems are moving rapidly away from their traditional dependence on coal generation, transitioning toward renewable energy sources that take advantage of our abundant wind, solar, and hydro resources. This transition will profoundly impact the design, operation, and regulation of the power system at all scales, from the largest generators to individual households. This presentation will provide an overview of the full electricity system value chain from an engineering perspective, with a focus on the transition toward the first periods of operation at 100% instantaneous penetration of renewables in the National Electricity Market.

SPEAKER:

Mr Chris Mock, Manager – Engineering Strategy, AEMO.

Chris Mock leads the Australian Energy Market Operator’s Engineering Strategy team. Through the ongoing development of AEMO's Engineering Roadmap to 100% Renewables, the team seeks to address the engineering actions required to prepare the National Electricity Market to securely and reliably operate entirely on renewable energy for the first time. He holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and a Master of Energy Systems, with over 15 years' experience in engineering, analysis, and product design roles across the energy, water, and agriculture sectors.

MODERATOR:

Dr Adrian Panow, Director Major Projects, Melbourne Energy Institute.

Adrian has international private and public sector expertise in business and technology development, joint ventures, stakeholder engagement, commercialisation, policy implementation and program leadership.

In MEI, he is responsible for establishment of a new major initiative called the Zero Emission Energy Laboratory (ZEE Lab) as well as developing other key programs.

Adrian has a Bachelor of Applied Science (biochemistry/applied chemistry) degree, a PhD in industrial biotechnology, Graduate Certificate in Business Administration, and is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
