Grey to Green - NEW Melbourne CBD Walking Tour
Event description
Did you know since 1985 the City of Melbourne has strategically transformed more than 80 hectares of grey space - the carparks, roads and maintenance depots into green public spaces that prioritise people, plants and wildlife?
The Grey to Green Walking Tour will explore the areas in the City of Melbourne where the greening of public spaces ensures the city is resilient, inclusive and meets the changing needs of its inhabitants.
On our route we will discover ...
1. How the greening of public spaces enhances biodiversity and climate change mitigation
2. The importance of canopy cover, surface permeability and biodiversity of public green spaces to enhance the liveability of our city
3. How local government can achieve successful outcomes by engaging and partnering with Traditional owners, residents, business owners, visitors, and stakeholders.
This new fieldtrip will be led by Rob Adams AM, retired City of Melbourne architect and Director of City Design and Projects.
