Melbourne General Cemetery
Event description
The historic bluestone gothic-style gate lodge, now an administration building, was rebuilt on its present site in 1934-35. It was made from materials of the demolished entrance lodges, which were designed by architect Albert Purchas and built in the 1850s. John Gawler was the architect of the reconstructed historic gate lodge located just inside the front entrance. It is possibly the largest gothic-style gate lodge in Victoria, and the only one remaining in the cemetery.
