Event description

Friends, colleagues and life-long learners! A reboot of our festival favourite, join us for the Melbourne Humanities Quiz and test your knowledge.

Join us at University House and prove you know your Arts from your Fine Arts and Music.

Gather the troops (tables of 8 max) or come solo and be matched up with fellow quiz enthusiasts on the night.

The Reverend Professor Russell Goulbourne will be presiding to test your knowledge and guide you through the humanities, social sciences and languages.

BYO thinking caps: funniest answer and best team name win prizes!

What to expect:

The bar will be open and discounted food options will be available to assist the revelry.

There will be five rounds of multiple-choice questions, and prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place with plenty of bonus prizes along the way.

Notes on accessibility:

  • University House is wheelchair friendly.

  • Menu options will cater to most dietary requirements.

  • Quiz questions will be shown on screen and read aloud.

This project was produced in collaboration with the 2025 Being Human Festival. Founded in the UK as the only national festival of the humanities, Being Human is now a global celebration dedicated to demonstrating the breadth, diversity and vitality of the humanities.

Your host

Rev Prof Russell Goulbourne is Professor of French Literature and was, until 2024, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne. He has published and taught extensively on major figures in French intellectual culture of the 17th and 18th centuries including Voltaire, Diderot and Rousseau.
