WHAT TO EXPECT

Brisbane Ranges National Park is a stunning natural reserve located in Victoria, Australia, about 70 kilometers west of Melbourne. Spanning over 3,300 hectares, it is renowned for its rugged terrain, diverse flora and fauna, and rich Aboriginal cultural heritage. The park features a variety of landscapes, from dense forests and heathlands to rocky ridges and open woodlands, offering a range of ecosystems that support a wide array of plant and animal species.

Located within the national park, the Little River and Old Thompsons Tracks are two rugged but beautiful trails that are part of the Brisbane Ranges National Park. Walkers are immersed in both native bushland as well as indigenous wildlife; with echidnas, kangaroos and wombats present within the park!

The Little River and Old Thompons Tracks offer 263m in elevation so this walk will be a great mix of hiking through native bushland and as well as some inclines.

Altogether both trails should take around 4-4.5 hours to complete.

A moderate level of fitness is required for this event.

START TIME AND MEET LOCATION

MEETING LOCATION: Boar Gully Campground, Balliang VIC 3340

MEETING TIME: Arrive 9:30am SHARP to meetup and check in for a 10:00am sharp Departure

NOTE: Arriving on time is critical to this event getting away on time. Participants not checked in by 9:50am may be left behind and forfeit their ticket.

PARKING: Available at the campground

CARPOOLING: Need help finding a ride to the hike, feel free to post in the Melbourne Social Walks Facebook Group.

WHAT TO BRING

- Water (at least 2-3L)

- Snacks and food for the hike

- Picnic Lunch (Pack something light and easy that you can eat on the go if we are not able to stop on the hike due to weather conditions).

- Money for pub/café afterwards.

WHAT TO WEAR

- Comfortable suitable walking shoes - Hiking Boots are highly recommended.

- Comfortable Weather Suitable Clothing

FINISH

This trip will run from 10:00am to around 3.30pm including the stop in Bacchus Marsh for a celebtratory drink.
