WHAT TO EXPECT
Buckley Falls is a scenic natural attraction located on the outskirts of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. The falls, nestled in the lush surroundings of the Barwon River catchment area, offer a serene and picturesque setting for visitors seeking a peaceful retreat in nature. Amazingly, the area is named after William Buckley, a convict who famously escaped from a penal settlement in the early 1800s and spent many years living with the Indigenous Wathaurong people!
For nature lovers and photographers, Buckley Falls offers a range of perspectives—from the upper vantage points where you can see the full expanse of the falls, to closer views that highlight the intricate rock formations and surrounding plant life. The reserve is home to a range of wildlife, including bird species and native plants, making it a great spot for birdwatching.
The site is not as heavily trafficked as some of Geelong's more well-known attractions, offering a more intimate experience of the natural environment. The charm of the falls lies in the peacefulness and sense of history tied to the landscape which makes it a worthwhile visit to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
