Melbourne Social Walks - First Annual Summer Regatta!

Did someone say Catalina Wine Mixer?! Not quite, but it is a Social Walks Summer Regatta for the ages!

We have really out done ourselves with this one. Welcome everyone to the First Annual Social Walks Summer Regatta! 

Come join Ads & Dan for an unbelievable day out along the Altona Foreshore where we'll spend the day in teams racing each other on the bay in sail boats! Yep you heard that right, sail boat races! On top of that we'll also have a fun filled day of swimming, playing cricket, footy, volleyball all whilst enjoying drinks and a bbq within the incredible facilities of the Altona Yacht Club! This really will be an experience to tick off the bucket list!

Our Social Walks are a great way to get outside, get your body moving and make some amazing new friends along the way!

WHAT TO EXPECT

Participants will be broken into 4 seperate groups. Each group will be given an allotted time to head out on the bay with their own sail boat and designated skipper (strictly pairs of two to a boat) to race other pairs within their group. While one group is out on the bay experiencing the race of their lives, everyone else can look forward to a variety of games and swimming with Ads & Dan along the grounds of the Altona Yacht Club. Once we've all had a sail a BBQ lunch will be put on between 12.30pm-2pm for our awesome Social Walks community to come together and laugh, have some food and to reminisce about the days events! 

**Note Each group require to undertake a 10 minute safety briefing prior to sailing** 

8:00am - Meet at Altona Yacht Club (8am SHARP)

8:20am - Everyone sets up for games and to relax in the grounds of the Altona Yacht Club (Group 1 excluded)

8:30am - 9:30am Group 1 Sail/Race

9:45am - 10:45am - Group 2 Sail/Race

11:00am - 12:00pm - Group 3 Sail/Race

12:15pm - 1:15pm - Group 4 Sail/Race

12:30pm - 2pm - BBQ Lunch

2:00pm - Finish

WHAT'S INCLUDED

- Each team of 2 will have their own sail boat (2 to a boat + skipper) and experience x2 20-25 minute races against the other people in their group (totaling approx. 50mins on the water)

- 10 minute safety briefing prior to sailing

- Full day of fun activities within the Altona Yacht Club grounds including swimming, cricket, footy and volleyball

- BBQ lunch

WHAT'S AVAILABLE

- Drinks at bar prices (Altona Yacht Club Bar will open at Midday) 

START TIME AND MEET LOCATION

MEETING LOCATION: Altona Yacht Club. 10 Beach St, Seaholme VIC 3018

MEETING TIME: Arrive 8am sharp to check in and get setup. The first group of racers (group 1) will go for their Sail at 8:30am SHARP! 

PARKING: There is parking at the Altona Yacht Club. 

CARPOOLING: Need help finding a ride to the hike, feel free to post in the Melbourne Social Walks Facebook Group.

WHAT TO BRING

- Water (at least 2-3L)

- Snacks

- Sun protection and Sunscreen

WHAT TO WEAR

- Comfortable Weather Suitable Clothing - Bring your bathers for a swim!

- Sun Protective Hat and Sunscreen

FINISH

The day will run from around 8:30am until 2pm and each group will be divided into groups of 14 for the Sailing Race experience. There will be 2 people to a boat for a total of 7 boats racing at a time. 

Due to the very high costs of organising this event, there is a strict cancellation period. No cancellations with-in 7 days of the event. Tickets can be re-sold though if something comes up to prevent you from attending. 

NOTE: this is a weather depended event, and should the weather prevent us for going ahead, we will reschedule the event or offer refunds. We will also have a back up hikes planned around the area too.
