Event description

Melbourne Technology Precinct Series

This year, we will present two events focusing on the role of Technology Precincts in the development of Melbourne’s high-tech economy. This event and Melbourne Technology Precinct Series: Melbourne biomedical precinct.

Creating powerful economic value through concentrated innovation ecosystems, technology precincts are designed to attract the capital, talent and entrepreneurial drive required for industry research collaboration and the commercialisation of new ideas. With the leaders and practitioners from these networks, we will explore two leading Melbourne technology zones and discover the exceptional scientific, engineering, economic and social contribution of these local world-class initiatives.

Event #1 - June Event: The Monash Technology Precinct

Monash University is the critical hub of the unique innovation ecosystem that has 20,000+ businesses employing 115,00 people contributing $12 billion to the Victorian economy each year. Home to leading R&D organisations, corporates and startups, it has been recognised internationally for its collective of institutions, industry and investors including the Australian Synchrotron, CSIRO, Victorian Heart Hospital and Moderna’s mRNA manufacturing facility.

Hear from expert speakers:

  • Andrew Wear, Director, Econovation and author of Solved! will outline the economic and policy dimensions of technology precincts;

  • Professor Ian T. Meredith AM, Monash University and former Global Chief Medical Offer of Boston Scientific USA will discuss his work on the establishment of the Victorian Heart Hospital; and

  • Dr Roksan Libinaki, Chief Operating Officer of Avecho Biotechnology will discuss her technology network experiences in the precinct.

They will share insights into the development and significance of the precinct, including the establishment of the Victorian Heart Hospital and its contribution to healthcare innovation.
