We warmly invite you to join us at the inaugural Meli Foster a Future Breakfast. This fundraising event serves as the launch for our annual foster care appeal, which runs throughout the month of September. It is also an opportunity to show appreciation for our wonderful Foster Carers.

Attendees will enjoy a seated breakfast, barista-made coffee, and inspiring guest speakers (see bios below). Tickets can be purchased individually or as tables of 10. We hope to see you there!

Keynote speaker: Saroo Brierley

Saroo Brierley has a remarkable story of loss, determination, resilience and discovery.

Born in Khandwa, an Indian town not far from Calcutta, Saroo, aged five, found himself at a train station waiting for his brother who never returned. Unable to find his way back home, Saroo spent three weeks on the streets of Calcutta and lost all contact with his family, before being placed in a local orphanage and later adopted by a Tasmanian family. In Hobart, Saroo enjoyed a traditional Australian lifestyle for the next 25 years, but never gave up on finding his biological family.

After years trying to track down his old town through the labyrinth of railway lines on Google Earth and an image etched into his brain as a five-year-old, he finally found his town Khandwa on the map and travelled to India to try and find members of his family.

Celebrating the importance of hope, Saroo’s moving story has been told in the autobiographical book A Long Way Home and the film, Lion, starring Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel.

MC: Myf Warhurst

Myf Warhurst grew up in regional Victoria where, she recalls, she spent countless hours in pursuit of pop music and trash TV as a child. At aged 17, Myf moved to Melbourne to study Music education at Melbourne University and later a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in fine art and art curatorial studies.

Myf has worked in and around the music/arts/entertainment industry almost since she arrived in Melbourne, having worked as a music and arts journalist before being introduced to radio as the showbiz reporter on Merrick and Rosso’s Triple J Drive show in 1999. Subsequent gigs on NOVA, Triple J and Triple M saw her popularity rise but her biggest claim to fame has been as team “captain” on the ABC’s weekly quiz show Spicks and Specks which attracted about one million Australian viewers.

Myf is currently travelling the country with the Rocky Horror Show, starring as the Narrator.
