What familiar objects exist in your mind even when they no longer exist in reality?

This workshop explores memories and objects in relation to experiences of loss through the simple medium of a postcard. The artists especially welcome participants who have been impacted in any way by flooding or other climate events in the Northern Rivers region.

During this workshop, participants will use paper to build a piece of furniture from their past, then photograph and take home a postcard-sized print of their memory. The artists will provide templates as a guide for participants to learn some sculptural papercraft and modelmaking skills as well as photography and lighting skills.

Participants will also learn how to use photogrammetry to scan their paper sculpture to turn it into a 3D digital object which can be viewed using augmented reality.

Van Sowerwine & Isobel Knowles exhibition The World Came Flooding In is on display at the Northern Rivers Community Gallery from 15 October – 6 December 2026.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government's Visions of Australia program.
