New Direction Consulting invites professionals, leaders, teachers, healthcare workers, justice workers and community partners to a full-day, culturally grounded and trauma-aware professional development workshop.
The Men’s Healing Journey Experience helps participants understand the experiences that can shape boys and men throughout life. The journey begins with the first five years of childhood and explores the influence of family, safety, attachment, belonging, trauma, identity and culture. It then follows the journey through education, mental wellness, relationships, fatherhood, justice involvement, reintegration, healing, accountability and leadership.
This is an interactive learning experience that combines professional information, guided reflection, discussion and experiential activities.
This workshop welcomes both male and female participants, including:
Educators, teachers and school leaders
Healthcare and mental wellness professionals
Justice, corrections and reintegration workers
Social workers and family service providers
Indigenous and community leaders
Human resource professionals and organizational leaders
Frontline workers, advocates and program coordinators
Anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the experiences of boys and men
Participants will:
Examine why the first five years of a child’s life are so important
Understand how family, safety and belonging influence development
Explore the effects of trauma, identity and cultural disconnection
Recognize barriers that prevent boys and men from seeking help
Examine coping, addictions, relationships and fatherhood
Understand justice involvement, survival responses and reintegration
Identify opportunities for prevention and earlier intervention

Develop practical actions for their workplace, organization or community

A one-hour lunch break is provided. Participants may bring a lunch or purchase lunch nearby.
This workshop addresses subjects that may be emotionally reflective. Participants will never be required to disclose personal experiences. Everyone may participate at their own comfort level, take a break or step outside when needed.
This professional development workshop is educational and is not a substitute for counselling, therapy, medical care or crisis support.

Terrence Bear shares lived and professional insight into incarceration, isolation, institutional barriers, reintegration and the challenges individuals face when returning to their families and communities.
Wellness Break
A guest speaker shares insight into gang involvement, belonging, identity, survival, consequences and the pathways that can help people move toward positive change.
Participants are given time to reflect on the presentation and prepare for the next session.
A grounded discussion about addiction, coping, recovery, accountability and the supports required to create lasting change.
A one-hour catered lunch break and an opportunity to build professional and community connections. Lunch includes: - Soup and bannock - Assorted sandwiches - Salad - Desserts Please identify any dietary restrictions or food allergies during registration.
