What’s it all about?

Holes in your jumper? Ladder in a cardigan? Or scarf that's fallen victim to moths? All’s well that mends well!

Join us for a class where you will learn how to mend your woollens with the simple technique of needle felting. Needle felting is the process of turning loose wool into a solid felt using a barbed needle - it’s a very easy craft that doesn’t require extensive equipment.

You can mend with bold, visible colours and shapes, or create a subtle mend that colour-matches your garment.

This class will provide all materials to mend and take home - just bring your not-quite-perfect woollens to be made beautiful again!

This class is suitable for absolute beginners.

What will we cover?

This hands-on workshop will teach:

The basics of needle felting
Different tools and their purposes
Types of fabrics and repairs that are appropriate for the needle felting technique
Shapes and ideas for visible mending (or simply for decoration!)
How to use your garment's excess fibres as a guaranteed colour match!
You will take home a felting needle, felting block and felt to continue your new mending skill!

What should I bring?

All materials are provided: needles, roving wool, and a felting block.

Just bring the material to be mended - please note that needle felting works best on woollen knitwear, boiled wool/felt, or fine wool and silks. Acrylics are not recommended, as these fabrics don’t felt well.

Who will be teaching?

Andrea (she/her) collects crafts and hobbies, and has a particular fondness for fibrecrafts. She has been knitting since she was 10 years old, and over the past few years has added embroidery and needle felting to the regular rotation - with spinning and weaving to come next! She has two ragdoll cats, a small army of houseplants, and loves teaching others her passions.
