ACCI Mens Mental Health Golf Day
Event description
Men’s Mental Health Week explores the causes and factors behind what makes boys and men healthy, or not healthy, in Australian society. This year, we want to ensure we are working towards engaging men in raising awareness of the services available. There is a large stigma around men’s mental health, with some people believing men shouldn’t experience difficult emotions, that they need to “man up” or “have some concrete” or “don’t be soft”. These views can be unhelpful and sometimes harmful. During Men’s Health Week, the focus is on increasing the conversation with men about their health. It’s about improving access to and engagement with health services and finding out how we can better support men and boys in the community.
In partnership with Pivot Support Services and Headspace Albany, the Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry is hosting a Golf Day to get the conversation started ahead of Men’s Mental Health Week 2023. The day will include 9 holes of social golf at the Albany Golf Club, 2 course lunch and a keynote speech from Peter Hughes (Bali bombing survivor) and opportunities to discuss the stigmas attached with mental health, particularly for men. Proceeds from the auction conducted during the afternoon will be donated to Pivot and Headspace.
