1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental health problem in any given year. That means that every person is likely to know someone who is experiencing a mental health problem, whether that is a family member, a friend or colleague. In fact, mental illness is now said to affect every Australian either directly or indirectly.

Mental Health First Aid will teach you how to provide initial support to someone who is experiencing a mental health problem or crisis. This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.

UC Medical and Counselling Centre are supporting the UC community by offering Standard Mental Health First Aid (Blended) to UC Students for FREE*. Please read the below details and important information before registering.

Details and Important information

This course is open to University of Canberra students only.
After registration, participants can attend UC Medical and Counselling Centre to collect their Standard MHFA Manual.
*Students are required to pay a $50 deposit fee at the time of collecting their manual. Students will receive their full deposit back upon the completion of the course.
This course is offered in two parts: a self-paced e-learning component + a 4-hour in-person session led by a licensed MHFA instructor on Thu 30 Nov, 9:00am to 2:00pm, in 22B14.
Participants can expect an email from the MHFA Instructor with instructions on complete the eLearning material, and to complete an online Accreditation Assessment to become an Accredited Mental Health First Aider. Participants will have to show their certificates to UC Medical and Counselling Centre to receive their deposit.
A break will be provided on the day (food BYO).
Once the manual is collected, we can not offer a refund if participants are no longer able to attend. However, we can offer the next available course at no additional fee.
