Event description

Do you feel confident about how to support an employee, team member or client who is having a mental health crisis?

With mental health now at the fore, Mental Health First Aid® training is fast becoming a standard requirement for leaders, managers, facilitators, trainers and educators and anyone who does work with people. It ensures you will feel confident about knowing exactly what to do if someone is a mental health emergency.

Join us for a 2 day Standard Mental Health First Aid® training to become an accredited Mental Health First Aider, which participants consistently report as improving their knowledge of mental illnesses, their treatments and appropriate first aid strategies as well as increased confidence in providing mental health first aid to individuals. You will also learn how to apply mental health first aid in a range of crisis situations, including suicidal thoughts and behaviours, panic attacks, aggressive behaviours, and severe psychotic states.

You'll train at Bloom with award-winning Matt Willson, co-founder of Mental Health First Aid training provider The Up Next Company.

What you will learn

  • The Standard Mental Health First Aid® (MHFA) course equips adults with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to a friend, family member, co-worker or another adult experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis.
  • The course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.
  • It provides an overview of mental illnesses, risk factors, prevalence, and impact before taking a much closer look at the following mental health problems:
    • Depression
    • Psychosis
    • Anxiety
    • Bipolar
    • Substance use problems.

Is this for you?

  • Mental Health First Aid is suitable for any adult who is committed to improving mental health in their workplace, friends, family and community.
  • This is not suitable for anyone currently receiving treatment for a mental health crisis.
