This workshop enables participants to make mermaid woven from a ti kōuka leaf. Ti kōuka leaves are known for their toughness (not good for mowers) and water resistance making them valuable for certain woven items. .

The Ti Kõuka leaves have a form reminiscent of a sea creature’s tail and streamlined body.

Mermaids and other semi-human beings of the sea are known across a wide range of cultures and there are tales of the bad weather and other misfortunes that come from disrespecting these beings.
