As you bake, Chef Parvine will share stories from her life, her Mauritian heritage, and the holiday traditions that bring family and friends together around the table. You'll gain insight into the unique blend of cultures that shape Mauritian cuisine, and the class will conclude with a relaxing afternoon tea featuring your freshly baked creations, celebrating culture, community, and connection.

About Chef Parvine: Parvine grew up in Mauritius, a small island in the southwest Indian Ocean. She says, “My mother put me in charge of the kitchen when I was 14. She wasn't a good cook so I learned how to choose ingredients and mix flavors from my grandmothers.” Parvine left the island at age 29, and has lived in 11 cities in five countries, saying that “I am more a citizen of the world than a citizen of one place." Parvine has experience teaching traditional Mauritian, French and Indian cooking to students at Cornell and now at Yale. “Cooking is my passion, and I want to share it with others!”
