Description

Something is shifting. [ You can feel it ] in the news, on your screen, even conversations at the pub.

The world may be falling apart, but we ask: is this a crisis or an opening. An invitation to act.

METIS is a talk and reflection session // in-person and online // on systems change, designed for people who give a sh*t about what's happening in the world but want more than a diagnosis. You might already know things are broken. This session is about understanding how systems actually shift, what it looks like to build something new alongside the wreckage of the old, and where you fit inside a moment that's asking something of all of us.

Ground we'll cover:

[ what's actually collapsing ] not as doom, but as orientation. What it means for a system to be "failing" versus working exactly as designed, for some and not others. What pressure and leverage points tell us about where change is possible and most impactful.

[ where the new is already growing ] the two-loop model of systems change: the old system declining, the new one emerging at the margins. Untangling the distinction that almost never gets made about what to do. Dismantling, reform, and building alongside aren't the same thing, and most of us are unconsciously doing all three. Explore the uncomfortable question of how we uphold systems we don't believe or align in, and what it would take to withdraw.

[ locating your own point of entry ] through individual and collective reflection that helps you identify what your role is, your capacity to act, and what your next move might be.

Grounded in systems theory, emergent strategy, and a decade of movement organising. Held in plain language with practical local examples - no prior knowledge needed, no particular identity required.

Bring your confusion. Bring your rage.

This is a HYBRID session. If available, we invite you to join in person at WIP Shed in Thebarton, an emerging makers space. But there is an opportunity to join LIVE online or watch the recording.

[ $15 ] in-person

[ $5 ] online/recording

with the opportunity to donate to a MUTUAL AID fund which will be given to a local Kaurna callout. With full transparency and communication of delivery

The session takes its name from Metis, Greek Titaness of wisdom, cunning intelligence and practical skill. Not the wisdom of certainty, but the kind that finds the path through uncertain terrain. The intelligence that adapts, reads the conditions, and moves anyway.
