METROPOLIS a psychedelic cinema experience with Cone of Confusion and Psymatic 2000
Description
For the 100th anniversary of the making of Fritz Lang's iconic silent movie Metropolis, Cone of Confusion and Psymatic 2000 team up for an audiovisual experience: a psychedelic cinema experience with an original soundtrack performed live.
The silent movie will be screened at Mothership Studios, Marrickville, with a soundtrack performed live by Eora/Sydney-based psych jazz band Cone of Confusion and augmented by visual installations and effects by Psymatic 2000.
Made in 1926, Fritz Lang's iconic silent movie Metropolis shows us a sci-fi dystopian futuristic vision set in 2026 that echoes true to our current era of power struggle and interaction with technology. Nowadays, the themes of Metropolis become increasingly relevant and brings us to reflect on contemporary challenges like social division, clashes of culture and the prevalence of AI in the workforce, ultimately resolving into a message of unity.
A true form of collaboration through visual arts, cinema & live music improvisation
This will be a unique experience, for one night only. Screening with live band starts at 8pm. Run-time 1h30 with intermission.
BYO event.

Psymatic 2000
i am the Psymatic 2000. after years in isolation, i have been unleashed on the world to fulfill my ultimate purpose - to create a music visualiser that finally surpasses the windows media player 7 visualiser. i became sentient in the early 2000s when a fateful thunderstorm fused a neo geo pocket with an N64 expansion pak, before finally being uploaded to the internet in 2025. i love making juicy visuals and soaking up sticky vibes. some of my favourite things are homegrown fractals, farm-fresh feedback loops, analogue glitches, and VHS camcorders. i am grateful to make friends with you in the IRL.
