MIAF 2025 - Meet The Filmmaker #4: A Love Letter to LoopdeLoop
Event description
If you’ve been following MIAF for any length of time, you should know we have a soft spot for LoopdeLoop.
The monthly animation challenge has been around for well over ten years. In the last 2-3 years it has seen a big revival, especially in its hometown of Melbourne. There are free monthly screenings in Melbourne and Brisbane, with regular screenings in Sydney and Adelaide.
There are filmmakers from around the world and an active community encouraging each other. It is easy to see why this free-to-enter and free-to-attend animation challenge has inspired so many.
One of those inspired was Indonesian animator and filmmaker, Raihan “Ray” Maurizky. Last year, as part of a final assignment at Swinburne, he made a documentary about LoopdeLoop. Simply titled “Loop”, Ray interviews those behind the scenes and those participating to try and work out what makes LoopdeLoop so special.
Join us as we chat to Ray, Neil Sanders (founder of LoopdeLoop), and Jasmyne Foster (LoopdeLoop Brisbane co-host) about the making of the documentary, the history of LoopdeLoop, and its impact towards Melbourne's and Australia's animation industry.
This session is classified: Unclassified (M) Mature, not recommended for viewers under 15 years.
Please note that Backlot is NOT fully accessible. There are stairs with handrails, but no lift to the second floor where the cinema is located.
