MIAF 2026 - Meet The Filmmaker #5: “Kyiv Cake” – The Inside Story

Direct from Estonian’s dependably brilliant Joonisfilm Studio comes “Kyiv Cake”; an exploration of certain world events through a lens that only animation – in fact, only Estonian animation – could ever hope to deliver. A rich and thought-provoking cocktail of observational insights viewed through lightly contorted surrealist lens, “Kyiv Cake” places an animated prism over the madness of what we are seeing and challenges us to look harder and think differently. After a screening of “Kyiv Cake” – the only time it will screen in MIAF – we will be joined live on the line by the film’s maker Mykyta Lyskov to discuss this fascinating, colourful and fluidly provocative film.

This session is classified: Unclassified (M) Mature, not recommended for viewers under 15 years.

Please note that Backlot is NOT fully accessible. There are stairs with handrails, but no lift to the second floor where the cinema is located.
