Please join us for our Micah Projects 2021 Annual Dinner focused on Creating Justice: Addressing health inequality and homelessness through partnerships.
Together we will come together and enjoy a 2-course dinner while hearing our panel of guest speakers discuss how we can work in partnership to progress healthcare services and address homelessness. Our special guests includes:

Janine Walker is a human resources expert with a background in health, academia and broadcasting.
Janine previously held senior management positions including Human Resources Director for Griffith University and Princess Alexandra Hospital, Director of Industrial Relations for Queensland Health, and Industrial Director and General Secretary of the Queensland Public Sector Union.
She also worked as a broadcaster and columnist and served for six years on the Board of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and for four years as Chair of the Corporation’s Audit Committee. She has held a range of board and committee appointments including membership of the Vocational Education Training and Employment Commission, Chair of the Australia New Zealand Foundation, Chair of All Hallows’ School and Board Member of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
Janine is an Adjunct Professor in the Griffith Business School, providing guest lectures and supporting research. She is a Fellow of the Australian Human Resource Institute and Australian Institute of Management and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
In June 2019, Janine was recognised in the 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honours. Janine was awarded Member of the Order of Australia for her significant service to education, to community, health and to the media.
Dr Peter Steer was appointed Mater Chief Executive Officer in January 2019 and has a wealth of healthcare administration experience and clinical expertise.
In September 2019 Peter was appointed as CEO of Mater’s services across Queensland where he will manage the development of a shared strategy to sustain the Mission of Mater’s ministries in health, education and research.
Previously, Peter was the Chief Executive of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) in London from January 2015.
He commenced his medical career at Mater Brisbane in 1982 after graduating from The University of Queensland, and worked at Mater in Adults and Children’s Hospitals until 1987.
After a few years in New Zealand and Canada with further training in Neonatology, Peter returned to Mater Mothers’ and Children’s Hospitals in 1991 and continued until 2001.
Peter then spent further time at McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences in Canada as President and Chief of Paediatrics at McMaster Children's Hospital and Professor and Chair, Department of Paediatrics before coming back to Brisbane where he was involved in the merger of Royal Children’s and Mater Children’s Hospitals as CEO of Children’s Health Queensland.
We are very fortunate to have such an experienced and passionate healthcare professional lead Mater Group into a new era, to ensure our vision of maintaining the health and wellbeing of our community is met.
With an extensive career in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and human service delivery, Jody Currie is an advocate for improving service accessibility for First Nations communities and has worked nationally and internationally in relation to traditional birthing practices.
Jody is a Yugambeh person with traditional ties to the country between the Logan and Tweed Rivers. Since attaining her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Gender Studies, Jody embarked on her career in health and human service delivery. Jody has a particular focus in child protection and health, working in several senior positions in both the community and government sector. Most recently Jody was a member of the National Aged Care Sector Committee. She has worked for the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council, Apunipima Cape York Health Council and the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health.
Jody has been on various Boards including non-government organisations and Hearing Australia - a corporate government entity. Jody is currently the Chief Executive Officer at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service Brisbane (ATSICHS Brisbane). ATSICHS Brisbane is a large diverse health, early childhood education, youth, housing and aged care service provider to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander in the Brisbane and Logan region.
John Willis' professional and volunteer career has included a wide variety of roles including living and working with those struggling with their mental health both in Australia and the UK, working on a remote Aboriginal community in central Australia as CEO of local government services, leading a national research project focused on Aboriginal health in hospitals, along with roles with the Victorian state government including overseeing drug treatment services in the Western Metropolitan Region.
In his current role as Group Manager Inclusive Health for St Vincent’s Health Australia (SVHA), he leads the Inclusive Health Program that grows their response to the most vulnerable in our society with complex health and psychosocial needs. This important area supports the growing of the mission at SVHA and John is passionate about how we can improve the way deliver care to most vulnerable. John has two adult children, two dogs and a long term passion for independent live music.
