Mike Costeloe
Event description
Since returning to Wellington four years ago after living abroad in Edinburgh, UK, Mike Costeloe has proved to be one of the cityâs most prolific and exciting trumpet players. Over the course of his career he has played music with the likes of The Wellington City Shake-âEm-On Downers, TOI, The Rodger Fox Big Band, Louis Baker, and The Black Seeds, as well as written music for the RNZAF Jazz Orchestra, SOUNZ Jazz Composer Series, and the Loemis Winter Festival.
Mike Costeloe presents some exciting new original material for quartet. A trip to Europe mid-2023 was the catalyst for a swathe of fresh musical ideas, that Mike has been slowly working through over the past year. Influenced by contemporary innovators in the improvised music scene, such as Peter Evans, and Ill Considered, this new material seeks to explore new approaches to spontaneous music making. Mike will be joined by Cameron Finlay on drums, Pete Fleming on bass, and Mike Ferrar on guitar.
