Event description

Western Sydney artists and arts workers interested in expanding their practice, and exploring public art are invited to an insightful artist talk with multidisciplinary New Zealand-based artist Michel Tuffery, including an in conversation segment with Anne Loxley, Director of Arts & Cultural Exchange.

Join Tuffery as he shares his experiences and reflects on the 2012 Museum of Contemporary Art & Campbelltown Arts Centre C3West partnership project, Buru Transforma Kangaroo, alongside key learnings from his two decades as a practicing artist.

About Michel Tuffery

Michel Tuffery is a multi-disciplinary New Zealand-based artist of Samoan, Rarotongan and Ma’ohi Tahitian heritage. Within his art practice he plays the role of working “in between” people and places, and focusing a fresh lens on environmental, community, cultural and art historical divides. Tuffery is a passionate educator who openly shares his kauapapa and knowledge to empower our youth through residencies and workshops for school-aged children in New Zealand and abroad. He exhibits worldwide and has undertaken research and community residencies throughout the USA, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Asia, India, Australia, as well as Aotearoa and the Pacific.

About Anne Loxley

Anne Loxley is an award-winning curator who specialises in collaborating with artists and communities to creatively address significant issues. In 2020 she joined ACE as Executive Director. Previously Anne was Senior Curator, C3West, for Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art, (2011-2019) where she developed innovative ways for artists to collaborate with communities, businesses and non-arts organisations, to address important concerns. Anne is Deputy Chair of the City of Sydney’s Public Art Advisory Panel, and a member of these organisations: Western Sydney Arts Alliance Working Group, Western Sydney Women’s Leadership Network – Art and Culture and the Sydney Cultural Network council.
