I’m A Believer
Join artist Michelle Hamer and journalist Grace Jennings-Edquist, creator of the award winning podcast, Beyond Hysterical, for a discussion exploring the longstanding issue of disbelief and dismissal experienced in healthcare. Hamer’s series, I’m A Believer, brings these issues to the fore and reveals the breadth of real-life experiences, highlighting the systemic challenges faced as people access healthcare.
After an international public call out in 2021, where people forwarded documentation and anecdotes, Hamer worked with printmaker Trent Walter to create a series of 21 editioned silkscreen prints and 65 mono prints. The artworks and subsequent exhibition provided a platform for people to share what was often overlooked or hidden experiences.
With inquiries having taking place at a state and national level regarding women’s experiences with the healthcare system, it's a critical moment for conversations to continue to be a catalyst for change.
