Mickey & Michelle invite you to the return of their Mini Folk Festival 🎉

Nestled in South Melbourne, St. Peter & Paul’s Catholic Church Hall will transform into a Mini Folk Festival for three brilliant acts of traditional and contemporary folk music with a sprinkling of Christmas cheer. After the overwhelming popularity of their inaugural Mini Folk Festival in 2024, this event is not to be missed!  

Kicking off the festival are new sensation The Squirrel Situation. A delicate and inventive duo of Naarm fiddler Jess Foot and guitarist Noah Churches. The exciting new duo are winning hearts playing acoustic music with precision and charm. 

Making their debut performance are the Melbourne Scandi Session, playing the very best traditional and contemporary music from Sweden, Norway, Denmark & Finland. See them in their first formal concert setting before they perform at Woodford Folk Festival.

Finally Mickey & Michelle will return from their two month tour to Queensland and back. Performing their trademark chamber-folk in front of a home audience with a hint of Christmas cheer. While this is not strictly a Christmas concert, there will certainly be a festive spirit to the event, with each act preparing something special.

Expect great music, a few Christmas surprises, and the warm welcoming atmosphere and community of a Mini Folk Festival!

The Squirrel Situation

Taking the idea of a folk duo in a direction that is new to them, Jess Foot (fiddle) and Noah Churches (guitar) combine their diverse musical backgrounds and a shared love of fiddle tunes to write music together in a way they never could on their own. Jazz, bluegrass, Celtic, and classical influences inspire their harmony and grooves, creating a contemporary folk sound that pays homage to tradition but has a home here and now.

Melbourne Scandi Session

Melbourne Scandi Session are a group of like-minded Scandi music enthusiasts who play fiddle, nyckelharpa, guitar, and many other instruments. With a shared love of traditional music from Sweden, Norway, and Finland, the group meets each month in Melbourne to celebrate all things Scandi music and culture. Expect up-tempo polskas, lyrical waltzes and traditional dance tunes played with good humour and camaraderie.

Prepare to be captivated by Australia’s most riveting harp and fiddle duo, blending breathtaking musicianship with original music full of wonder.

Descending from the mountains are harp and fiddle duo Mickey & Michelle, whose energetic and virtuosic performances have captured hearts throughout Australia and New Zealand. Celebrated for their intricate arrangements and heartfelt songwriting, Mickey & Michelle weave a gorgeous ‘chamber-folk’ tapestry of original Celtic music infused with vocal harmony and fiery improvisations.

The duo’s journey began with a wild idea: to walk the length of New Zealand on the 3000km Te Araroa Trail for six months, performing concerts along the way. This adventure forged a deep connection between their music, the natural world and the communities they encountered, inspiring carefully crafted lyrics and instrumentals that invite listeners to reflect on their own connection with the natural world.

Following the release of their album Solace in Wonder, Mickey & Michelle continued this journey with a five-month Northern Hemisphere tour through Canada, Spain, England, Scotland, Wales and Iceland. Along the way, they hiked the 800km High Route of the Pyrenees, formed lasting friendships with musicians and fellow adventurers around the world, and found inspiration in the North’s brutal and beautiful landscapes. 

Returning to the Melbourne with music shaped by these journeys, Mickey & Michelle invite you into an evening of soaring melodies, virtuosic instrumentals and heartfelt songs, pushing the boundaries of what harp and fiddle can do.
