Event description

New Zealand’s first-ever microvolunteering conference is here!

Do you want to:

  • Make a meaningful difference in your community?
  • Put kindness into action?
  • Meet and connect with like-minded others?
  • Nurture and nourish your wellbeing?

This year, in celebration of International Microvolunteering Day, The Microvolunteering Collective and Volunteering NZ are teaming up to deliver 'Micro Moments for Macro Change'.

This virtual conference is your chance to do all of the above … and experience the magic of microvolunteering for yourself!

Throughout the day, we’ll be running 7 interactive virtual microvolunteering sessions - and you’re invited to join us for whichever ones take your fancy:

- 10am NZT: Yoga and Introduction to Microvolunteering

(Before you can serve your community, you have to serve yourself. So, let's kick-off the morning with a relaxing yoga session, followed by a chat about microvolunteering)

- 11am NZT: SPCA Toy Drive

(Repurpose your old clothing into tug toys for animals at the SPCA to play with while they wait for their forever homes. Delivered in partnership with the SPCA)

- 12pm NZT: Introduction to NZ Sign Language

(Learn some basic Sign Language so you can communicate with the deaf and hearing impaired)

- [1pm NZT: Lunchbreak]

- 2pm NZT: Postcard Picnic

(Handwrite messages of love to spread some cheer to lonely residents in local rest homes)

- 3pm NZT: Love Letters

(Brighten the days of sick children in Starship Hospital, by decorating a letter placard for them to display on their wall)

- 4pm NZT: Remembrance Ceremony

(Decorate a candle bag to remember lost loved ones. Delivered in partnership with the Cancer Society)

- 7pm NZT: Bake-along

(Spread some kindness with some baked goodies! Join our celebrity chef and Good Bitches Baking for a live baking demonstration, to help you whip up some sweet treats to pass onto someone in need)

Each session is appropriate for all ages and abilities, and will be delivered free of charge via Zoom (although you’ll need a few supplies from home for some of them).

What is microvolunteering?

Microvolunteering is based on a simple idea - that huge impact can collectively be created when a small group of people unite together to do a little good … and it turns this into a new approach to community action. It’s all about bite-sized volunteer tasks that allow you to make a difference to your community in small chunks of time.

Why join?

Aside from the warm and fuzzy glow that you'll get from doing something kind for someone else, it is also an epic way to develop your skills, meet lots of new people and have a positive social impact on your community.

Have questions, or want to chat about getting your workplace, team, or community group involved?
