Microbiology Workshop: Streaking for Isolation - Biopurpose LLC
Event description
Come practice streaking for isolation! This is a fundamental inoculation technique used in microbiology to obtain single colonies of microorganisms on agar plates. It takes some practice to master, but itās actually quite enjoyable once you get the hang of it.
This event is designed to give each of the 14 participants three hours to streak 30 agar plates, using cultures of Streptomyces coelicolor and Micrococcus luteus.
After two weeks of incubation, participants will receive a Google Drive link containing photos of each of their plates. They will also receive personalized feedback on their performance.
Finally, participants will be invited to select one plate for me to preserve and ship to them (shipping costs covered by the participant). It makes for a unique souvenir ā something tangible to keep from the event!
