Mike Nock Trio performs Ondas + Krakatau
Description
Presented in partnership with Fed Square, the final chapter of Efficient Space’s 10-year celebrations arrives at The Edge on Thursday 23 July, with Mike Nock Trio performing the ECM landmark Ondas, supported by new-generation fusion ensemble Krakatau.
A work of astonishing emotional depth, Ondas captured New Zealand-born pianist Mike Nock alongside bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Jon Christensen in Oslo in 1981. More than four decades on, it remains one of ECM's towering achievements. Across a 65-year career spanning collaborations with Yusef Lateef, Art Blakey, Bennie Maupin, John Abercrombie and Chris Abrahams, Nock has cultivated a musical voice so distinctive that Bill Evans once recognised it from a blind listening. For this rare full-length presentation, he is joined by longtime collaborator Laurence Pike (drums) and double bassist Ben Waples.
Ondas disciples Krakatau open the evening, having recently re-emerged with Terra Ignota. A panoramic synthesis of spiritual jazz, fourth world, post-minimalism and contemporary composition, the album promises to reveal new dimensions in performance, centred around the auditorium's grand piano.
