"A charismatic maestro...vivid storytelling" The Age
One of the true mavericks of Australian music, Mikelangelo is the alter-ego of Michael Simic. From The Old Bar in Fitzroy to the Sydney Opera House to London’s West End, he has packed houses and garnered accolades as a solo performer and with his long-term group Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen, releasing 15 independent albums and building a worldwide following.
"Part Elvis, part New Romantic, part storyteller" **** Time Out (UK)
Simic’s music draws on eclectic influences, including outlaw country, Eastern European folk, classic crooners, 50s blues and doowop, spaghetti western soundtracks and instrumental surf music, baroque pop, and the darker realms of rock'n'roll. His songs are known for their vivid imagery, stirring rhythms, and soaring melodies, and his stories and off-the-cuff banter makes every show unique. Whether performing intimate solo sets or commanding large festival stages, his live performances are a dynamic blend of wild energy, depth and humour. The unmistakable baritone voice and charismatic stage presence of Mikelangelo has made him a beloved figure in Australian and global music and performing arts.
