Across Mexico, Día de Muertos is celebrated in many different ways, with each region bringing
its own traditions, music, costumes, food, rituals and ways of remembering. From family altars
and gatherings to music, dance and celebrations in cemeteries, these traditions reflect the
extraordinary cultural diversity of Mexico and the importance of keeping memories and ancestral
connections alive.
THE OFRENDA
We will create our own Día de Muertos altar, inspired by the traditional ofrenda. Bring a
photograph of someone you would like to honour and place it on the altar. Photographs,
candles, flowers, food and meaningful objects come together as a way of remembering and
welcoming loved ones.
MEXICAN LOTERÍA
Join us for a traditional game of Lotería Mexicana, Mexico’s iconic bingo-style game, with prizes
for the winners.
MARIACHI BAND
Enjoy traditional Mexican music and sing along with our special guests, Mariachis NZ. Bring
