West Art is a welcoming, all-ages venue in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, dedicated to live music, performance, and community gathering. Housed in a former church, its two distinct spaces offer exceptional acoustics and a warm, reverent atmosphere for artists and audiences alike.

The Story

West Art was founded by Rufus Deakin and Josh Gibbel—two creative, community-driven minds united by a passion for art, music, and connection.

Rufus spent 17 years as a chef in London and Australia before settling in Lancaster with his wife, a local jeweler. After years of renovating unique homes across Europe and the U.S., he now splits his time between restaurant consulting and bringing West Art to life as a hub for creativity and culture.

Josh, a lifelong Lancastrian and longtime city resident, has been deeply involved in the local music scene and community for over 15 years. Through his work in home renovation and his dedication to grassroots connection, he’s helped shape the neighborhood he loves.

Together, Rufus and Josh are building West Art as a living room for Lancaster—a place where art happens, people gather, and community thrives.

The Space

Our 15,000 sq ft venue includes open studios, galleries, and two stage-equipped rooms—all anchored by a community coffee bar and art cooperative. West Art is a home for events, exhibitions, and collaboration.
