Event description

Help take care of New Zealand’s waterways!

Million Metres is thrilled to invite you along to a planting day at Cranford Basin co-hosted with our Foundation Partner, Alsco and coordinated by Conservation Volunteers New Zealand.

Grab your gumboots and enjoy a morning out in nature helping restore this beautiful forested wetland.

Conservation Volunteers New Zealand is aiming to plant 37,000 kahikatea trees in Cranford Basin this winter! They need your help. These seedlings will grow to become the largest stand of kahikatea in Ōtautahi Christchurch since pre-European times. Cranford Basin is a natural ponding and storm water management area, critical to reducing the flood risk to urban Christchurch. It will be transformed over the next decade into a multi-purpose forested wetland that will benefit ecosystems and the surrounding community.

There will be a shared barbeque provided by Alsco, and the day will wrap by 2pm!

*Please register so we can ensure enough kai and spades on the day

**Please be advised the rain date for this planting day is Saturday, 5 September. In the event we need to move to the rain date, we will contact you to let you know.
