Description

Join creatives Tineswari Maruthamuthu and Catherine Heald for a relaxed, creative workshop where we come together to complete a collaborative textile artwork.

Inspired by the biodiversity of Waitahurangi Stream and Te Kōtuitanga (Olympic Park), this community wall hanging is made from recycled and repurposed fabrics. Add your own creative touch while learning simple stitching techniques from talented crafters, and enjoy a mindful, hands-on making experience.

Although this is our second session of the project, everyone is welcome - no prior attendance needed.

This is a welcoming space to connect, create, and be part of a shared story that will be proudly displayed at our EcoHub.

What to bring/wear:

Fabric scraps or textile remnants (if you have some)
Comfortable clothing (we’ll be seated on mats or cushions - chairs also available)
A plate to share for afternoon tea (optional)

This beginner workshop is suitable for ages 14+.

Tineswari Maruthamuthu

Tineswari Maruthamuthu (@themindfulmender) is an Auckland-based multi-disciplinary creative with a passion for addressing textile waste in Aotearoa. She facilitates inclusive workshops that equip you with the skills to extend the life of your clothing and textiles through slow stitching, mending, embroidery and creative upcycling. These techniques are taught with an underlying foundation of mindfulness, responsible consumerism, and the benefits of slowing down in our fast-paced world.

Catherine Heald

Catherine Heald is a textile enthusiast with a lifelong love of quilting, dressmaking, eco-dyeing, knitting and mending. As a homeschooling mum of two, Catherine is drawn to creative projects that encourage connection, resourcefulness and mindful making, often working on several textile projects at once - with many more ideas always waiting in the wings.
