Mindfull Shift is a not-for-profit community event that highlights the gifts and talents of lived experience artists and encourages us - as a community - to think differently about diverse mental health experiences.

Join us for a very special evening of music, art and connection delivered with a gentle dash of humour that aims to break mental health barriers and shift minds so that as a community, we can share, support and recognise the beauty, challenge and transformational power of our mental health journey. We guarantee you will feel something.

Because we've all been there in one way or another. And we all have gifts to share with the world.

This event is supported by the Queensland Government and proudly produced in partnership with Wesley Mission - Art from the Margins, MindfullAus and Le Bon Care. It is a not-for-profit event. All funds raised through ticket sales support the lived experience artists involved, future Mindfull Shift events to promote community mental health awareness and stigma reduction, as well as activities that promote mind and behavioural health and suicide prevention in schools and vulnerable high-risk communities.

This is a drug and alcohol-free event.

DAY OF EMBERS

Born of love, myth & traditional folklore, Day of Embers is a duo of Celtic & seafaring rhythms interlaced with age-old tales of love, loss, survival & justice. Combining the multi-instrumental talents of singer-songwriters, Welshman Daryl James, & Dawn, a bewitching vocalist of Canadian, Irish & Indian descent, DoE weaves spectacular harmonies with banjo, autoharp, tin whistle, guitar & mandolin.

LYDIA FAIRHALL

Lydia Fairhall is a prolific songwriter and artist, creating two back-to-back, full-length albums in 2020/21. For this gig, she is joined by her long time collaborator Kali Blunt (front woman, Tigerlilly) and two special guests, their daughters; fifteen year old Luka Morley and eight year old Serema Harvey.

In 2020 Lydia released her debut album True North with The She Oaks. True North stayed in the AMRAP charts for 6 weeks running, peaking at number 1. In 2020 Lydia was selected as one of the BigSound50 artists. True North was selected as "Album of the Week" for the nationally syndicated Good Morning Country radio program.

Lydia was listed in The Music's BigSound50 acts to watch, with her songs described as "important work that demands your attention”.

Her sophomore album The Narrows is a renewal and evolution of Lydia's sound and her story.

Produced and performed by Samuel Pankhurst (The Trouble With Templeton, Yirinda, Australian Art Orchestra), The Narrows is a departure from Lydia’s country/folk sound, moving into indie pop territory with a strong emphasis on melody and the emphatic and down to earth lyrics and vocals that Fairhall’s work has been praised for over the years.

Paying homage to folk, singer/songwriter roots, the album features a peaceful, organic guitar sound and Fairhall’s beautifully troubled lyrics and vocals. The addition of straight electro/folk/pop drums, strings, layered vocals and synth takes the songs on another journey- one that reflects the dynamic collaboration between Pankhurst and Fairhall. The Narrows is experimental pop production- both deliberate and running on instinct.

The first single off The Narrows, “lullaby” dropped August 20 2021, landing at number 9 in the AMRAP charts, followed by the success of Free, Higher and Always Raining.

EMMA BEAU

Emma Beau is a counsellor, social media influencer, and musician.

She is the creator of The Life Clinic, a counselling and psychology clinic based in Gympie. Emma has amassed a TikTok following of 37,000 followers (@Therapy_em), where she has gained a positive reputation through openly discussing mental health challenges in difficult to treat areas, such as emetophobia, depersonalisation and derealisation disorder, and ADHD. She is currently an ambassador for Listen Up Music!, a charitable organisation focused on the mental well-being of artists.

Emma has played with Kasey Chambers, Jon English, The Wiggles, and is currently the lead singer of The Atomic Beau Project. She took out the Queensland Music Awards in 2019 for her #4 ARIA charting song Wild Heart (#1 on the independent charts), and toured Australia as session musician at Australia’s major festivals, including Woodford Folk Festival and Caloundra Music Festival. Her new single ‘The Nerve’ sees Emma stepping out of her old skin with a new sound and attitude, combining her sultry vocals with electronic production, all of which were recorded, mixed, and produced by Emma and her bandmate in her bedroom on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

About MindfullAus

Mindfull Aus takes a youthful, realistic and comfortable approach to talking about mind and behavioural health and suicide prevention. With sponsorship from the Queensland Mental Health Commission, Mindfull Aus is delivering a series of community events commencing August 2023 that:

> highlight the gifts and talents of those with diverse mental health experiences;
> aim to break mental health barriers;
> inspire hope around recovery from problematic drug and alcohol use;
> create opportunities for connection that reform attitudes, shift minds and de-stigmatise the experience of a mental health journey within families and the wider community.

The events will be delivered in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast in 2023. Target groups include people with lived experience of mental health challenges or psychosocial disability, carers, arts industry professionals and the general community as well as community organisations, local government, mental health providers and government agencies as key stakeholders in the conversation and action to create change.
