We discuss our impacts we have on the earth and ways to make a difference. We start a weaving project and create a pencil tin.
We talk about landfill, where things go when we have no use for them anymore and how we can reduce our contribution to landfill. We do a natural dye activity and create a DIY rag rug.
We learn about our local recycling systems, how to recycle correctly and composting. We participate in a drama skit and make some recycled crafts.
We discover what clothes are made from, natural fibres, the fashion industry, and environmentally friendly clothes washing. We re-dress our Farm Kids plot scarecrow and make eco washing powder.
We find out about trees, how paper is made, timber plantations and paper recycling. We make our own recycled paper and a DIY journal.
We investigate how dyes and chemicals affect our waterways and our skin and explore the alternatives. We do an activity with natural dye and make DIY watercolour paints.
We discuss more sustainable crafting resources and the craft items we are making and then forage in the farm gardens to items to use. We paint with ochre and create a nature wall hanging.
We learn how to begin a new garden project. We talk about soil health, composting, germination and propagation, planting with the seasons and companion planting. We spend time in our garden and plant some seedlings to take home.

$130 per individual day session
This Term our focus remains on farming practices across a broad scope of topics from sustainability to planting with the seasons to recycling. Our program will run over 8 weeks. Children and teachers will learn together through rich discussion and the sharing of knowledge. Children will get plenty of hands on experience as we explore The Farm, tend to the animals and upkeep our own small garden plot. Each week children will do craft projects, that may sometimes span across several weeks. Upon completion, there will be some treasured items to take home.
As always, the program also includes time to play outdoors, build friendships and learn in nature. There are breaks throughout the day for food, water and relaxation. We look forward to another successful and FUN term at Farm Kids.
