About the Walk

Situated within the Bulimba Creek catchment, Minnippi Parklands is a mosaic of wetland, woodland and riparian habitats - home to a variety of water birds, woodland birds and seasonal visitors. This month eBird users have logged up to 57 species.

We’ll meet at the lagoon viewing platform on the north end of the parkland. After checking out the water birds, we will take the paved lagoon circuit. Reconvening at our meeting point, anyone who’d like to keep birding is welcome to join us for an optional second walk further north, where we’ll try to cross off additional species.

At the end of the morning, we’ll finalise our group checklist so everyone can record what we saw and heard together!

Why Join?

Birdwatching is a beautiful way to slow down, connect with nature, and build community. As we appreciate the local avifauna, we also reflect on the histories of this land and our shared responsibilities in protecting it.

🌈 This event is for the LGBTQIA+ community and our allies. 🌈

⚫️🟡🔴

As this walk takes place on the stolen, unceded lands of the Yuggera and Turrbal peoples, we invite all birders to walk with mindfulness and respect.

Though ecological discourse in so-called Australia has been shaped by Western science and colonial legacies, First Nations peoples are the first ecologists and ornithologists, holding deep, reciprocal relationships with birds and Country since time immemorial.

Magandjin Queer Birders pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their enduring connection to land, skies, and waters.
