Event description

Miriam Lieberman blends her West African and global sound with the sensibilities of a singer songwriter and the distilled punchy format of pop brings her acoustic trio to the Rhythm Hut in Gosford on Friday 7th May when she will be launching her new single Infinite We Are and playing songs from her imminent new album release.

...

“(Miriam) has a knack for giving her songs a feeling of significance, even while they float with effervescent pop pleasure.” The Music

“A thing of intoxicating beauty.” Rhythms magazine

‘Something of a renaissance woman’ (Sydney City News),

“She achieves the almost impossible in blending patterned western-ed pop writing with the earthy mystique of African rhythms and freaky world instruments.” - Sydney City News

...

Miriam soars on the kora (21 stringed African harp) and acoustic guitar with her emotive and pure vocal sound. Together with Susie Bishop on violin and vocals (an accomplished opera singer and regular with many outstanding folk, classical, baroque and world music outfits) and Lara Goodridge also on violin and vocals (well-known violinist and vocalist and a regular at The Street Theatre in her French band Baby et Lulu and electric string quartet, FourPlay), they make an enticing and uplifting musical experience with an accomplished and uplifting sound.

Miriam’s albums are soulful collections of stories, beautifully told through strings, African kora and Miriam’s unmistakable voice. The stories speak of her musical journey, which has taken her from Guinea and Mali, where she studied the kora – to central India, Indonesia, Mexico, and South America. These places have left an imprint on Miriam’s musical style as well as a catchiness and contemporary tone that is entirely her own.

Miriam has regularly featured at festivals around Australia including Woodford, The National Folk Festival (as the NSW showcase act), Fairbridge (WA), Yungaburra Folk Festival (QLD), Shir Madness, Blue Mountains Music Festival, Four Winds Festival, The Multicultural Festival (Canberra), Paramasala (Parramatta), Cygnet (TAS), Denmark Festival Of Voices (WA) and many more. Internationally, she has featured at The Guinean Jazz Festival, Hakodate World Music Festival (Japan), Voix des Femmes (Mali) and The Bali Spirit Festival.
