Bring space science out of the textbook and into the real world.
Mission to Space is a three-day immersive aerospace and space-science programme for secondary-school students, combining practical challenges, teamwork and exploration with scientists and specialist space educators.
Across three days, students will take on missions inspired by the challenges of exploring Earth, the Moon, Mars and beyond.
THE MISSION
Students will:
PLAN & OPERATE A MARS ROVER MISSION
Work as a Mars mission team, plan a route, operate working rover models and tackle the challenges of exploring another planet.
DESIGN & LAUNCH ROCKETS
Explore the principles of rocketry through hands-on design and model rocket launches.
TRAIN LIKE AN ASTRONAUT
Take part in astronaut-style activities exploring the physical, technical and teamwork challenges of human spaceflight.
WORK WITH ROBOTICS
Experiment with robotic systems and discover how robots allow us to explore environments humans cannot easily reach.
EXPLORE EARTH & SPACE
Investigate Earth, space and environmental systems and discover how scientists study our planet while preparing to explore other worlds.
The programme is designed to build practical engineering and problem-solving skills, teamwork, communication and leadership, while introducing students to Moon and Mars exploration and pathways into aerospace and STEAM careers.

- WHO IS IT FOR?
Secondary-school students and school groups from across Aotearoa New Zealand.
This is not a scripted planetarium show or a day of watching demonstrations. Students become the mission team.
They will plan. Build. Test. Operate. Launch. Solve problems. And occasionally discover why space exploration has an inconvenient habit of making you rethink the plan.
