Moana Auckland Shoreline Social - A Kina Tasting with Purpose

Elevate your Kina Table experience on Sunday 1st March with a special ticketed event that celebrates both the wonder of our moana and the importance of sustainability right here in Aotearoa. All proceeds form the event will support Kiwi Harvest.

Building on the hands-on Kina Table session - where you’ll learn how to open kina, understand the difference between male and female, discover how to clean them and most importantly savour their unique flavour - this enhanced experience also includes a live kina preparation demonstration, offering deeper insight into technique, seasonality and respect for this treasured delicacy.

The event then goes a step further with a curated canapé hour. The canapé recipes have been specially created by Peter Gordon and will be brought to life in collaboration with Brent Martin and the Park Hyatt culinary team and Dinesh PM (ex Homeland Head Chef). Showcasing kina alongside rescued ingredients, these inventive and delicious bites demonstrate that sustainability doesn’t mean boring - it means thinking creatively, tasting beautifully and caring deeply about where our food comes from.

Each ticket also includes 2 Lyre’s Classico Sparkling Non-Alcoholic Prosecco per person, thoughtfully paired to complement the delicate flavour of kina and the canapé selection.

With every ticket sold, proceeds will directly support KiwiHarvest’s mission to rescue surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and redistribute it to communities in need across the country. KiwiHarvest rescues hundreds of thousands of kilograms of quality food each month, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping feed those who are struggling - turning surplus into sustenance and care.

This unique celebration of kina, kai and community reinforces the connection between caring for our moana, valuing precious resources and supporting a more compassionate, sustainable Aotearoa.

Please note: 28 February marks the beginning of the kina spawning period. The Kina Tasting Experience is therefore subject to the kina in the Waitematā Harbour remaining in full bloom and of suitable quality for consumption. Final confirmation will be provided closer to the event date following assessment by our dive team.
