Moana Auckland Shoreline Social - Kina Table Tasting Experience
Description
Step into the world of the Waitematā’s most iconic kai moana at our Kina Table, a hands-on tasting experience guided by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei divers.
Across a relaxed 30 minute session, you will learn how to open a kina, understand the differences between male and female, discover the best way to clean them and, of course, taste the rich and unmistakable flavour that makes kina such a treasured taonga.
Each morning of Moana Auckland Shoreline Social, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei divers will head out to collect fresh kina especially for these workshops. They will share stories from their dive practice, insights from the moana and cultural connections to this celebrated delicacy.
You will also enjoy a can of Lyres Classico Sparkling Wine Alcohol Free which beautifully complements the kina and rounds out the tasting. After your session, stay on to wander the Shoreline Social marketplace, enjoy more kai and explore the vibrant stalls and activities that bring the waterfront to life.
This is a free experience, however sessions are limited to 50 guests to ensure everyone gets time to learn and taste.
Please note that 28 February marks the beginning of the kina spawning period. The Kina Tasting Experience is therefore subject to the kina in the Waitematā Harbour remaining in full bloom and of suitable quality for consumption.
Event time subject to change.
