    Event description

"What's our Future? Reducing the impact of Climate Change and Energy use

The EU's Green agenda for renewables and resilience."

In 2021 renewable energy was just 21.8 % of energy used in the EU. Then the Russia Ukraine war unfolded in February 2022 and so the EU’s current reliance on non-renewable energy sources was brought into stark relief.

For over three decades, the EU has sought to reduce its carbon footprint and is now committed to a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and aspires to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. Under the EU’s Green Agenda policy framework, the 27 Member States have agreed to a REPowerEU plan which is based on three pillars: saving energy, producing clean energy and diversifying the EU's energy supplies.

The Model EU in Wellington will examine the impact of the EU’s Green Agenda and attempt to answer the question that is going to affect all of us - “What’s Our Future”?

This relaxed and engaging event is open to all high school students Years 9 to 13, with no previous experience or EU knowledge required.

The registration will close EOB on Wednesday, 10th May 2023!
