Modifyre 2023 - Chrysalis
Event description
Built around a set of guiding principles, Modifyre reflects these ideas in our event and year-round community.
Once a year we create a temporary village built on a gift economy, fuelled by communal effort, lit with radical thinking, and filled with participatory art, theme camps, performance, workshops, music and, of course, fire.
This year we are celebrating our Chrysalis phase.
Our community is full of weird and wonderful bugs, of many shapes and many colours. Following on from two challenging years, now it is time to slow down, to completely dissolve our old form, old ways of being and moving.
Into the chrysalis we go, to strip back old layers, find the core essence of ourselves, and try on new selves. We will connect in with our new home at Gari Yala, and rearrange our ways of being, lay some foundations, to then emerge in our more beautiful and mature form in years to come.
Unlike many events, Modifyre is not created by a production company. at our event, there are no corporate sponsors, stalls, exchanges of money,
or spectators.
There’s just you, me, and our imaginations…
Modifyre is the regional Burning Man event for Queensland and Northern NSW. It is currently one of the three such regional events held annually in Australia. These events are built around the core philosophies of Burning Man, an experimental gathering dedicated to creativity and community.
