Event description

Monnone Alone return to Canberra on Friday, May 30 to launch their new album 'Here Comes the Afternoon' at Dissent Cafe & Bar with very special guests Reserve Skank of Australia, Tyreslashers and ophelia sabine.

Formed around the songwriting of ex-Lucksmiths bassist Mark Monnone, the Melbourne four-piece also features members of Architecture in Helsinki, Mid-State Orange and Ciggie Witch.

On 'Here Comes The Afternoon' – the band's long-anticipated fourth album – the core line-up of Monnone, Gus Franklin, Joe Foley and Louis Richter are joined by erstwhile Aloners of yesteryear like Darren Hanlon, Steph Hughes and Lehmann B. Smith among many others, who gathered together to capture their ramshackle magic to 8-track cassette in Monnone's tiny backyard studio Stock Cube.

Deviating from the straight-ahead powerpop of 2019’s Summer of the Mosquito and the locked-down bedroom strum of Stay Foggy (2021), the new album delves into some gentle psychedelia and sunshine pop whilst touching ever so fondly upon The Apples in Stereo, The Who, The Cure, The Bats and yes, Happy Mondays!

Joining Monnone Alone at Dissent will be Canberra ska mates Reserve Skank of Australia, indie janglers Tyreslashers and dream pop maestro ophelia sabine.
