MONNONE ALONE (VIC) + Expensive Music Band + Loaded & True
Event description
Monnone Alone (VIC) + Expensive Music Band + Loaded & True
Saturday 31st May 2025 - 6PM
Live at The Servo, Port Kembla.
Monnone Alone drop into The Servo, Port Kembla on Saturday, May 31 bringing their new album 'Here Comes the Afternoon' with very special guests Expensive Music Band and Loaded & True.
Formed around the songwriting of ex-Lucksmiths bassist Mark Monnone, the Melbourne four-piece also features members of Architecture in Helsinki, Mid-State Orange and Ciggie Witch.
On 'Here Comes The Afternoon' – the band's fourth album – the core line-up of Monnone, Gus Franklin, Joe Foley and Louis Richter are flanked by erstwhile Aloners of yesteryear like Darren Hanlon, Steph Hughes and Lehmann B. Smith among many others, who gathered together to capture their ramshackle magic to 8-track cassette in Monnone's tiny backyard studio Stock Cube.
Deviating from the straight-ahead powerpop of 2019’s Summer of the Mosquito and the locked-down bedroom strum of Stay Foggy (2021), the new album delves into some gentle psychedelia and sunshine pop whilst touching ever so fondly upon The Apples in Stereo, The Who, The Cure, The Bats and yes, Happy Mondays!
Joining Monnone Alone at The Servo will be Illawarra's finest merchants of melody, Expensive Music Band and Loaded & True.
MONNONE ALONE
Although the name may suggest otherwise, Monnone Alone are a bona fide pop group based around the songwriting of Mark Monnone (ex-Lucksmiths) and featuring members of A-grade pop tinkerers Architecture in Helsinki, Mid-State Orange and Ciggie Witch. That’s almost as bona fide as it gets. Having traversed the globe, with a sound that at times touches on Television Personalities, The Clean and Jonathan Richman, the band are now ready to set sail album-number-four, 'Here Comes the Afternoon'. Dagger Zine have referred to Monnone as "one of Australia's most unheralded songwriters", whilst All Music said the band's album 'Summer of the Mosquito' could fit “right next to the best work of Matthew Sweet, Velvet Crush, or Teenage Fanclub and not notice any drop in quality. It’s that good.”
EXPENSIVE MUSIC BAND
Born in Dharug country and based now on Dharawal land, Troon Lienad has been honing his melodic sensibility in a plethora of musical support roles. The last 15 years has seen him low key self releasing and toiling away at a number of primitive avant pop DIY projects that each sound delightfully alien from one another. In 2023 he released the full length album for Expensive Music Band ’Things to say at a Barbecue', Lienad left his bedroom production posture and improvisational druthers behind to find comfort in musical democracy with co-conspirators: Annabelle Blackman(Body Type, Solo Career), Chet Tucker (Chet Sounds/Tex Crick Band), Luke Player (Tropical Strength, Pinheads) and Bowen Shakallis(Big White). The album gathered high praise featuring on many of end of year record lists and is to be followed up by the hotly anticipated 'Cringila Village New Age' at the end of 2025.
LOADED & TRUE
Loaded and True is a Wollongong band with members of Blue Divers and Body Type.
